Castor oil for hair side effects

Castor oil for hair side effects

If you’ve ever searched on how you can increase the length of your hair, then you’ve heard about Castor Oil like Jamaican Black Castor Oil because it was probably shown as the number one way to do so. Castor Oil is widely used in the production of soaps, lubricants, brake fluids, paints, dyes, inks and perfumes. It is a very pale yellow that has a distinct taste and odor. It is referred to as a miracle oil that is nothing but good for your hair. However, like with anything, there can be some issues.  Sure, it can increase the length of your hair, but there are some disadvantages to it at the same time. Without further ado, let’s get into the cons of using castor oil on your hair.

Hair Fall

This is a great factor and probably the reason why some people stay far away from castor oil. If you’re using just a little amount of castor oil this shouldn’t happen however there are cases where people do shed some hair before their hair starts growing and getting thicker.  It’s almost as if you’re getting rid of the bad hair before you can grow some new, stronger and thicker hair.  This only happens rarely and most people don’t have any hair shedding at all.

Castor oil has triglyceride with 90 percent fatty acid chains that are ricinoleates and oleate and linoleates. All that sciency stuff means that the oil is itchy to some. Unlike traditional hair oils, castor oil might make your scalp itch. This only happens rarely and could be a bit of an allergic reaction.  Before you put it on your scalp put it on a small piece of skin to see if you get itchy from it.

Closing Thoughts

Everyone appreciates a few extra inches of hair on their head.  In general, the side effects from castor oil are minor and are rare so it’s a great product to try out and see if it works for you.  It’s inexpensive and easy to apply so it’s one product that there’s not really much harm in trying out.  It’s better to know if it works for you or it doesn’t.

Essential oils for hair growth and hair loss

Essential oils for hair growth and hair loss

Even though many of us may not even realize it, our pride is in our hair. People will style it, get it cut, grow it out long or keep it short. Hair can be an accessory and if it gets paired with the right style of clothing, then nothing can stop you. We highlight it, we color it and we even bleach it. To be honest, for many of us, the hair that we have is quite important to how we feel about ourselves.Basically, hair is what reflects our style to the world and that means that it is a big part of how we look.

Hair loss hurts your state of mind

If you have noticed when you shower that there is more hair in your drain than normally, or you begin to see a lot of shed strands gathering in your hair brush or on your comb, then it is a part of nature to want to find a way to make it stop. Hair loss can be a highly unwanted and inconvenient thing both women and men. It can even be uncomfortable and there are even times it can be embarrassing. So, the next step is to find a remedy to fix that. Before you can do that, you need to know why you are losing your hair.

Why you’re losing your hair

Let’s be honest, there could be many reasons why people will begin to notice that they have hair loss, whether it is gradual or significant. There are genetic reasons, while others may be related to health, and some that can be environmental. A cause that is seen to be very common is male pattern balding, and this condition will happen whenever the stem cells that are located within the scalp begin to lose their ability to build new hair follicles. Whenever this happens, the follicles will shrink hair will not be able to grow from them. It will normally start near the temples and then moves to the scalp which leaves patchy spots and bald spots all over your head in patches.

Another reason that a person could be losing their hair is, believe it or not, stress! Human hair will have a cycle of growth. This is where it will grow, then rest, then shed. Whenever a traumatic or stressful event happens, it can cause a shock to the system which triggers a lot of shedding and will stop growth. Often times hair loss can often be noticed between 2 and 6 months after the trauma.

Another cause for hair loss is actually a medical condition called hypothyroidism. This is where there is an underactive thyroid in the body and it isn’t able to produce enough hormones that are needed for the cycles of the body. If a person’s metabolism does not get enough of the needed nutrients, then there are several places in the body that are not going to be able to function like they should, which can cause hair loss. If you believe you have this, then talk with your health professional or doctor. They are going to be able to check the levels of your thyroid and help you to move to the next step.

Women who have recently given birth or those who are pregnant can see some major hair loss during or even several months after a pregnancy. This is just temporary and is a condition that is called telogen effluvium, which is excessive hair shedding. During pregnancy, many follicles will enter into a rest period which is for hair regeneration and growth. Hormone levels for a pregnant woman will change dramatically in the body, which often confuses the natural body cycle and will cause more shedding than normal. It takes about 3 to 4 months after giving birth that the hormone levels will regulate, and the growth cycle will go back to normal.

There are a lot of reasons that can cause hair loss.

  • Anabolic steroids
  • Vitamin,Iron, or protein deficiency
  • Chemotherapy
  • Too much chemical processing
  • Genetic makeup
  • Over styling

These can cause a person to have hair loss, which leave your scalp damaged and unable to provide hair growth and regeneration.

Best essential oils for hair loss and hair growth

Now let’s start talking about the various types of essential oils that you can use to battle your hair loss. So, how does essential oils help hair loss? They actually help by stimulating your hair follicles or roots and help to promote healthy circulation. They also help to provide oil balancing qualities as well as nutritional support for the follicles and scalp. Now what types of essential oils should you use?

Clary Sage Oil

This essential oil comes from the plant called Salvia sclarea. It has an amazing smell and actually contains some high phytoestrogen levels, which has been known to help promote and stimulate hair growth. Whenever it is applied to the scalp, the clary sage oil will help to regulate oil production in your scalp and it can be used on oily or dry hair and scalp. In order to use this oil, you are going to want to mix jojoba oil and clary sage oil together in equal amounts. When it is combined, massage it into your scalp and then let it sit on there for about 30 minutes. You will want to wash it out using a mild shampoo or just rinse it out with warm water.

Rosemary Oil

In ancient times, rosemary oil would often be mixed with other types of oils such as fir oil, castor oil, and sweet almond oil to help promote new hair growth. This oil is extracted from the rosemary herb and it is one of the best types of essential oils out there for those who have thinning hair. It has been known to cause hair growth as well as improve the circulation of blood to the scalp. The Rosemary oil actually contains powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties which help to promote healthy scalps. This essential oil is also stated to slow down the greying process because of the antioxidant properties and it is often used to treat itchy scalps and dandruff because it has antiseptic and antifungal properties.

Thyme Oil

Fungi, bacteria and other types of germs can gather on your scalp which can cause a scalp infection and can cause hair loss. Thyme oil actually has antiseptic properties that will destroy bacteria and germs that can clog up your hair follicles and make your hair fall out. Massaging the thyme oil mixed with coconut oil will help to improve circulation, promote new hair growth and even slow hair loss. There are many different types of thyme, but the thyme that is best and safer to use for any thinning hair will be white thyme because red thyme will have more phenols and it can cause irritation for some people.

Cedarwood Oil

Often times your hair follicles will weaken because you have poor blood circulation to your scalp. Using cedarwood oil will help to stimulate the blood circulation that is in your scalp and that will help to promote plenty of hair growth. This essential oil actually has antifungal properties that will help to protect your scalp from getting a fungal infection that will cause your hair from growing properly and the fungi that will cause your hair to begin to fall out.

Lavender Oil

Believe it or not lavender essential oil is often added to a lot of hair care products and it happens to be extracted from those lovely scented lavender flowers. It contains areally strong antiseptic property that will actually help to remove all those germs that have clogged up your hair follicles and can cause infection, which will lead to hair loss. Lavender oil is even a stimulant which will help to improve the blood circulation in the scalp which helps to prevent your hair from falling out because of the bad circulation.

Sweet Basil Oil

Basil itself is actually filled with some powerful antioxidants and a lot of nutrients that can help a person to help fight colds and flus. It is also a big anti-inflammatory agent that will help to heal those inflammatory conditions such as acne or hives. Now the essential oil will actually unclog any blocked hair follicles and help to clear up dandruff and oily scalps. It has a stimulant property which help to promote circulation, and this makes sure that every area of the scalp is properly nourished with nutrient rich blood which in turn will promote hair growth. However, if you plan to use Sweet basil oil, only use the recommended doses because it is super potent and too much can be dangerous and toxic if it is not used in the right way. A good way to use this oil is to add it a sulphate free shampoo. For 8 oz of shampoo just add 10 drops of the oil.

Chamomile Oil

Chamomile especially if it is German Chamomile, is very well known for having effective yet gentle antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties which can help to promote cellular regeneration which allows your hair follicles to function correctly and appear. Because it is a very strong anti-inflammatory agent, it can be super beneficial for your scalp and hair health. Not to mention that it is cooling and soothing, especially if you have an itchy scalp, which is great for tired and overworked scalps and hair. The best way to use it is to mix the oil with jojoba oil and then massage it into your scalp. Leave it overnight and then wash your hair with a mild shampoo the next morning or you can just leave it in until you shower next.

If you are suffering from hair loss, then using essential oils are great and a holistic way to promote the needed hair growth. Before using essential oils, please check with a health care professional to ensure that essential oils will not cause issues with any treatments that you may using.

The biggest competitor to Wild Growth is Jamaican Black Castor Oil which I’ve reviewed here.

Hair oil should be part of a hair growth management system

Before I get on to the review, I just wanted to state that hair oils should be part of a holistic approach to hair growth.  You have to look after yourself on the inside as well as outside.  Wild growth can help with the “outside” but you should also look into hair vitamins to help your internal health, thus helping your hair growth.  Hair vitamins such as Hairfinity and Viviscal are giants of the industry.  I’ve reviewed Hairfinity here and Viviscal here.  You should also look into shampoos specifically designed for hair growth.  Shampoos such as Art Naturals Organic Argan Oil Hair Loss Shampoo should be considered.  I’ve reviewed the shampoo here.

The review

Recently I purchased Wild Hair Growth Oil from Amazon and I noticed that this particular oil has been advertised on the back of most magazines claiming that it will grow your hair beyond any length that you could ever imagine. So, I decided to try out the oil for myself. I managed to find a bottle of the oil for under $10.Wild Growth Hair Oil

How it works

You can use hair oil at any age and the younger that you are when you use hair oil, be sure that you aren’t using a whole lot on your scalp. You should leave it on overnight and then wash it out the next morning.  Be sure that you are not going to use a lot of oil in your hair as it can cause your hair to become oily and greasy.  The hair oil is meant to thicken your hair if you are dealing with hair loss and to strengthen the fragile strands and help to prevent any further damage.  The natural ingredients will help you to feed your hair which makes it easier to comb and style and of course grow your hair faster.

So how does it work? The best part of this product is that it is easy to use and you don’t have to have any extra maintenance.  It is essential for you to use Wild Growth hair oil on your hair just a few times a week maximum.  It can also keep your hair protected from the damaging effects of heat from blow dryers, curling irons, and even flat irons as well as other protection from the chemicals in relaxers, hair dyes, and perms.

My experience with Wild Growth Hair Oil

I started a log to see just how long my hair would grow.  The first thing I did was try out the oil to see how it would feel on my hair.  The first thing that I noticed was that it smelled bad and was really thick.  It doesn’t smell great at all and when it is time for you to shampoo your hair, you have to do it more than once to get all of the oil out.

The bottle says to apply the oil to the scalp, and that is what I did. I normally don’t put anything on my scalp but my shampoo, but I did to give an accurate review. At first it felt yuck and I had issues with it because I was using too much for my hair.  You know how it is, you add that little bit extra hoping that it works that little bit faster.  It would take two washes to get all of the oil out of my hair.  After a bit of trial and error, I ended up getting the right amount of oil onto my scalp and hair so that my hair wasn’t so yucky in the morning and I only needed to wash it once.  You don’t need much of this product in your hair at all.  The instructions say apply 5-15 drops but I only used 4 drops.  I applied it to my roots and to the end of my hair.  I only used it one to two times a week so it wasn’t too much of an inconvenience.

The results

After my experiments of getting the right amount of oil for my hair, after about two weeks there were some minor changes.  My hair just felt stronger but softer.  Then a couple of weeks after that, so about a month of using the product my hair started growing faster.  I’m really happy with the product, it’s inexpensive and it works!  I can’t ask for more than that.

  • There is less irritation from dryness
  • There is less dandruff
  • There is less hair breakage from abrasions and dryness
  • There is also increased hair growth.
  • Hair feels softer but stronger
  • Inexpensive (check price) so you’ve got nothing to lose

  • The biggest con of this oil is the smell. That is probably due to the natural ingredients, but the benefits actually override the nasty smell and you will actually enjoy using it.
  • The other con is that the oil may look a bit too oily to use it in the day time, so it is best if you use it at night before you go to bed and then wash it out in the morning.

In the end, once you figure out how much Wild Hair Growth Oil to use and how to apply it to your hair type, it will grow your hair faster and it will help to prevent breakage and improves manageability.  The Wild Growth Hair Oil will help to accelerate the growth of your hair by strengthening and softening it.  If you want to grow your hair faster, check out our home page for hair growth vitamins.  The most famous of which is Hairfinity.  I’ve reviewed Hairfinity here and there are coupons for it here.

Is coconut oil good for your hair?

Is coconut oil good for your hair?

Coconut oil is something that is loved for many different uses. It smells like a vacation, it hydrates cuticles and dry elbows and the best of all it will improve the health of your hair.

So, how does it work?

There have been scientists that have studied the effects of oils on hair which have included mineral, olive, sunflower and lastly coconut. The results that they received some pretty amazing results for coconut oil. It has been shown that it actually penetrates hair. So, why would that matter? Many hair products and ingredients are only able to coat the surface of the hair to add shine, conditioning, smoothness, and more. Although, coconut oil has a chemical structure that allows it to penetrate the cortex or the inner part of your hair which helps to improve flexibility and strength.

This means that your hair is less likely to break and less likely to be damaged from heat styling and combing. Another benefit of coconut oil is that it has some super staying power. Since most oils will sit on top of your strands of hair, they rinse out when you wash your hair. Coconut oil cannot be washed off. The reason why is because it is inside of your hair, so you can’t really rinse it away. If you have dry and damaged hair and have a lot of issues with hair loss as well as breakage, then you need to get you some coconut oil.

Is it hard to find?

Nope. It is found in a lot of newer hair care products. You should look for leave in products that have coconut oil as one of the three top ingredients. It is listed pretty low on the list, then you won’t get any real benefits from it.

You can always try to use pure coconut oil. The best part is that you can find it in most natural food and grocery stores. You can normally get it for around $5.00, you will be able to have coconut oil that will last you a year or more. Just use it sparingly and apply to the ends of your hair. I actually apply it to my damp hair before I blow dry or use my wet-to-straight flat iron.

Coconut oil is great and a natural way that you can improve the overall health of your hair. It doesn’t matter if you are using pure coconut oil or using hair products that contain this amazing tropical treat, your hair will love and thank you for it.  Another oil that might help is Jamaica Black Castor oil.  Check out my Jamaica Black Castor Oil review.

Jamaican Black Castor Oil Review

Jamaican Black Castor Oil Review

I have been meaning to write up a review for Jamaican Black Castor Oil for a while now.  Recently I just finished my very first bottle of it and I bought it just over a year ago.  The first thing that I noticed is that it is quite thick when you try to do anything with it. So I happened to mix mine with coconut oil. I have added it to my conditioners as well, which I use in an undiluted condition. I add just about a teaspoon or more to the amount of conditioner that I need for that one time.

Jamaican Black Castor Oil
Jamaican Black Castor Oil

Jamaican Black Castor Oil is dark colored and the smell may remind you to roasted nuts. The smell is pretty strong but it isn’t as bad once you have it diluted or added to condition. It is also a lot thicker than regular castor oil. I use my oil mix of coconut oil and castor oil when my hair is braided or placed in cornrows. I also happen to apply it to a lightly clean scalp. When I undo the cornrows it works well too. I apply it liberally to the scalp along the lines of the cornrows with an applicator bottle then proceed to undo them. This way the hot oil treatment would be in my hair and keep it lubricated. I also used the oil mix for doing overnight pre-shampoo type of treatments for promoting healthy hair growth.

How to use Jamaican Black Castor Oil

I would apply the oil mix to my scalp as well as my dry damaged hair before bed, and wear a plastic cap that is tied in place with a scarf. I would then shampoo my hair the next morning. When the weather is still cool, you will notice that the coconut mixture will cause it to solidify.

Jamaican black castor oil benefits

Raise your hand if you have had any of these issues: acne, hair loss, bad skin, chapped lips, signs of aging, infections, scars, etc.? Okay, put your hand down, it looks a bit weird with your hand in front of the computer screen. Jamaican Black Castor Oil has so many benefits, and most of them people have no clue about. This castor oil is amazing for health, especially hair and most common skin issues even some internal issues that you just don’t want to treat with harsh chemicals that have been processed by big pharma. Jamaican Black Castor Oil has been around for a long time, and over the ages it has lost a bit of flare for those uses, except to make your hair super healthy and fabulous like those Herbal Essence hair models screaming “yes” in the most random places. Let’s talk about a few of them.

  1. It Treats Dry Hair!

This Castor Oil has a lot of Omega-9 Fatty acids, which are great for moisturizing your scalp, which in turn keeps your hair from getting too dry and causing that weird frizz, that makes you almost feel as if you stuck your finger in a light socket. When you apply it regularly, it will moisturize your scalp and roots which will prevent dry hair and can even promote some hair growth, so if your hair is so dry that you are starting to notice your thinning in the hair department, this is perfect for you.

  1. It can take care of scars!

This Castor Oil is a really reliable way that you can get rid of scar tissue. Whenever you apply the castor oil to scars, it is going to prevent any new skin from growing which is going to help you to permanently remove scars. It can even smooth out fibrous tissue, which will make your scars less noticeable.

  1. It is a natural way to treat acne!

Those Fatty Acids that are found in the Castor Oil can certainly take care of that super embarrassing break out from stress or just super clogged pores. Washing your face with castor oil will help out so much. All you are going to need is 100% pure Jamaican Black Castor Oil, a soft washcloth, and some hot, steaming water and POOF! Acne Be Gone!

  1. It Prevents Hair Loss!

The Castor Oil can help to battle infections which can cause hair loss and even scalp disease. Whenever you put it on your dry hair, it can take care of dandruff and even head lice, which is great if you come home with cooties. It can even take care of greasy hair. Now, even though there aren’t any side effects with using this castor oil, it needs to be used in moderation because over using it on your hair can actually cause some damage and you don’t want that.

  1. Random Benefits

If you have ringworm, athlete’s foot, burns, fungal infections, insect stings, sores, cuts, corns, psoriasis, and other skin infections then Castor Oil can certainly help. For the small stuff, just put a few drops on a band-aid and then put it on the area two times a day. For the big spots, use an oil compress. This castor oil is an anti-fungal, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic agent. It can kill off the bacteria in these conditions.

Those are just some of the biggest benefits from using Jamaican Black Castor Oil.

Jamaican Black Castor Oil results

The one thing that I really noticed about Jamaican Black Castor Oil for hair growth is that it caused my dry hair to become really soft. I am not sure if it caused it had an increase hair growth or not, which is what it is really popular for, but it did stimulate, strengthen and thicken my hair, especially after a pre-shampoo treatment. It comes down to the question on whether or not I would buy it, the answer happens to be definitely.
